E-Tech Components Strengthens 3M™ Partnership Through Authorised Cable Jointer Training

E-Tech Components Strengthens Its 3M™ Partnership Through Authorised Cable Jointer Training

E-Tech Components has reached another significant milestone in its partnership with 3M™, having been authorised to deliver Cable Jointer Training on behalf of one of the world’s leading technology companies. The achievement follows a specialist ‘Train the Trainer’ session held at E-Tech’s headquarters in Widnes on Friday, 24th July. On the day, 3M Application Engineer, James Addy, worked alongside E-Tech Technical Sales Manager and qualified Cable Jointer, Luke Barber. Combining 3M’s globally recognised cable jointing technology with Luke’s real-world installation experience, the programme enables E-Tech to provide practical, manufacturer-backed training that helps Cable Jointers develop their skills while promoting safe, reliable and compliant installations.

Strengthening Our Partnership with 3M™

E-Tech Components has supplied 3M Electrical Markets products to customers across the UK since April 2025. We offer LVI Resin Cable Joint Kits, Cold Shrink Terminations, Electrical Tapes, Point and Path Markers, and the Dynatel Locator X Series — all for Low, Medium and High Voltage applications.

Earlier this year, members of the E-Tech team visited 3M’s Bracknell headquarters to not only strengthen relationships, but to gain further insight into the company’s technical expertise and product portfolio. And more recently, E-Tech welcomed James Addy to Widnes to deliver a dedicated Train the Trainer session. By authorising E-Tech to deliver Cable Jointer Training on its behalf, 3M has taken the partnership another step forward while recognising E-Tech’s commitment to technical knowledge, customer support and installation best practice.

Practical Cable Jointer Training Delivered by Industry Experts

Leading E-Tech’s training programme is Technical Sales Manager Luke Barber, whose career spans electrical contracting, high voltage cable jointing and technical sales. Having started as an apprentice electrician before progressing into high voltage jointing and engineering roles, Luke combines extensive field experience with a passion for sharing technical knowledge.

Delivering the programme was James Addy, 3M Application Engineer, who brings more than 20 years’ experience in technical engineering, cable jointing and training. Throughout his career, James has held senior technical roles with some of the world’s leading electrical engineering companies. Over the years, he’s specialised in technical support, product development and competency-based training. Working together, Luke and James explored installation techniques, product applications and industry best practice using practical demonstrations throughout the day.

Covering Every Stage of the Cable Jointing Process

The hands-on training covered a range of topics designed to reinforce safe and effective installation techniques, including:

The session reinforced best practice across every stage of the jointing process. Everything from cable preparation and cable lug installation techniques to the correct use of specialist installation tools.

Practical demonstrations also covered bonded semi-con removal, conductor preparation, cable joint assembly and the correct application of 3M™ Scotch® Electrical Semi-Conducting Tape 13, used for electrical stress control, ensuring consistent, reliable installations.

Investing in Cable Jointer Training and Skills

Authorised Cable Jointer Training strengthens E-Tech’s growing technical support offering and gives customers access to practical, manufacturer-backed training delivered by an experienced Cable Jointer. By combining Luke’s real-world installation experience with 3M-approved training methods, E-Tech is helping engineers, contractors and Cable Jointers build confidence while promoting best practice across the industry. As Britain’s electricity networks continue to evolve, developing competent, skilled Cable Jointers remains essential to delivering safe, reliable infrastructure.

This latest milestone reflects E-Tech’s continued investment in technical expertise, practical training and long-term manufacturer partnerships. By working closely with global organisations such as 3M, E-Tech continues to offer customers more than just products alone. We provide the knowledge and support needed to achieve high-quality electrical installations.

Looking Ahead

The 3M™ Train the Trainer programme marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for E-Tech Components.

With 3M’s authorisation and Luke Barber’s extensive field experience, E-Tech is now equipped to deliver practical Cable Jointer Training that combines manufacturer-approved methods with real-world installation knowledge. As the partnership continues to develop, E-Tech remains committed to helping customers install, maintain and support critical electrical infrastructure safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
